Plancha v BBQ

What’s better a Plancha or a BBQ? A La Plancha is a popular form of outdoor cooking across the Mediterranean and America, yet in the UK the barbecue has remained a firm favourite in many households.

That’s all set to change! Cook Outdoor are giving people in the UK the opportunity to benefit from the ease of use and functionality of the Plancha grill.

The UK are a Nation of BBQ lovers. Cooking over an open fire certainly has its attractions, but cooking ‘A La Plancha’ offers so much more than a barbecue can. There will always be a time and place for a BBQ – who doesn’t love a flame grilled Saturday afternoon BBQ in the sunshine? But for the rest of the time when a barbecue is just too much effort and we want something special, you have the Plancha.

Health benefits of cooking on a Plancha Grill

Grilling has its obvious benefits, but did you know the black smoke created from the oils dripping into the flames contains dioxins, which are well known to be harmful to our health. All oils and fats from the surface of the Plancha grill go into the handy drip tray, whereas when cooking on a BBQ the grease will fall directly into the flame creating black smoke, which is where the dioxins are created.

Cooking outdoors any time!

There's no planning necessary when cooking on a plancha grill. As long as you have gas you can decide to cook breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks at any time throughout the day. Simply turn the plancha on and wait for 5 minutes for the cooking plate to heat up. Now you're cooking like a real chef! The plancha reaches temperatures of 270-320 °C which allows food to be cooked quickly. This allows food to be seared as quickly as possible so that it retains all its juices and melts in your mouth. At lower temperatures, with other kitchen appliances, the food cooks by expelling the moisture it contains making it hard and bland. Also, BBQs are pretty limiting with regard to which food you can cook, i.e. mostly meat. The plancha burners evenly distribute the heat which is perfect for cooking not just meat but vegetables, flatbreads and halloumi etc. Perfect if you're not particularly a big meat eater!
